A Piston Accumulator uses compressed gas as a spring cushion to store energy. A piston-type accumulator uses a piston to separate the compressed gas from the hydraulic fluid. This type of accumulator is known as "hydropneumatic."

A Bladder Accumulator uses compressed gas as a spring cushion to store energy. A bladder-type accumulator uses a bladder to separate the compressed gas from the hydraulic fluid. This type of accumulator is known as "hydropneumatic."

A Diaphragm Accumulator uses compressed gas as a spring cushion to store energy. A diaphragm-type accumulator uses a thin, flexible diaphragm to separate the compressed gas from the hydraulic fluid. This type of accumulator is known as "hydropneumatic."

A Spring Accumulator is hydraulic only, and uses a spring to store energy.

A Bellows Accumulator is hydraulic only, and uses a bellows as a spring cushion to store energy.
